The Story Behind AnchorPoint
Our mission is to save lives physically, mentally, and spiritually, by loving and serving God and extending that love and service to every man who walks through our doors.
AnchorPoint exists because of one man’s worst day, and the years that followed it. Co-Founder Brendan McDonough was serving as lookout for the Granite Mountain Hotshots on June 30, 2013, when a wildfire outside Yarnell, Arizona, took the lives of 19 of his fellow firefighters, his brothers.
His survival, and their loss, became the story told in My Lost Brothers and the film Only the Brave. What the story does not always show is what came after: crippling depression, post-traumatic stress, and an addiction that nearly cost him everything.
Brendan found his way back through therapy, community, and a decision to surrender that pain to Christ. AnchorPoint was born from that same fight, so that other men carrying combat trauma, first responder trauma, or the weight of their own unfinished business would have a brotherhood to fight alongside.

Brotherhood That Lasts: Our Alumni Network
Treatment ends. Brotherhood does not. Alumni stay connected through 12-step meetings, Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), and Bible study, along with weekly gatherings over Zoom.
Our alumni app gives former clients a private space to connect with fellow alumni, track milestones, and reach an addiction professional through secure, HIPAA-compliant chat any time it is needed.
Men who are ready can step into the Alumni Ambassador Program, guiding newer men through the same fight they once faced themselves.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be Christian to attend AnchorPoint?
No. An open heart is enough to start. Many of our clients found or renewed their faith during treatment, and we welcome men who are doubting or simply looking for something more than a traditional rehab.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. We accept most major commercial plans, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, Humana, GEHA, TriWest, and more. We do not accept Medicare or Medicaid.
Do you accept men from outside Arizona?
Yes, from across the U.S. Leaving home is often one of the most powerful parts of recovery, and Prescott’s landscape becomes part of that process
How fast can I get admitted?
Same-day admission is available when space allows. The sooner a man calls, the sooner an admissions specialist can verify insurance and start the process.
Is AnchorPoint only for men?
Yes, by design. Men recover differently in a single-gender environment, and the brotherhood that forms is something our alumni consistently point to as the turning point.
Do you treat veterans and first responders specifically?
Yes. Our team understands the culture and pressure carried by veterans and first responders, and builds programming specifically to help process that trauma.
