If you are a Christian, there are programs and treatment centers dedicated to providing spiritual guidance and using Christ-centered principles as a cornerstone of their treatment approach.

“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast” Peter 5:10

Remember, no matter the challenges you have faced, God offers hope of strength, salvation, and restoration. Read on to learn how an evidence-based, Christian rehab facility such as AnchorPoint can support your recovery journey from addiction.

What Are Christian Rehab Centers?

A Christian rehab center is a substance abuse treatment program guided by the principles of Christianity, such as compassion and forgiveness, combined with evidence-based medical interventions and clinical therapy.

These two foundations collaborate to support individuals in maintaining their faith throughout the recovery process and feeling connected to something greater than themselves.

One way to find a Christian rehab near you is by talking to local Christians or faith leaders in the community, such as pastors or ministers. They can often point you to resources or support groups that use faith as a resource.

Key Features of Christian Rehab Programs

Being a Christian, or holding any strong belief system, is a core part of many people’s identities, often impacting their choices in life, and sometimes their success in recovery from substance abuse. A few key features of Christian rehab programs include:

  • Faith is a part of daily life and treatment, and may include regular prayer, scripture study, bible groups, and worship.
  • Biblical teachings and scripture guide recovery and spiritual growth, focusing on key concepts such as forgiveness, redemption, and compassion for oneself and others.
  • Strong community and fellowship programs, including group therapy, Bible study, and community activities, foster a sense of brotherhood and mutual understanding and help individuals hold each other accountable.
  • Values-driven treatment, such as in a faith-based program, can help individuals overcome feelings of shame or guilt while promoting feelings of accountability and personal growth aligned with Christian ethics.

The Role of Faith in Long-Term Sobriety

Several studies show how faith is a positive factor in recovery from addiction and mental health. Around 73% of addiction treatment centers in the US have a spiritual component in their program, and 84% of people find this helpful [1].

Other studies have shown the power of faith as a protective factor in long-term recovery. 86% of alcohol abuse research and 84% of drug abuse research found that faith helped protect against drug abuse, and only a small percentage reported that faith contributed negatively to their recovery [2].

Finding the Right Christian Rehab Center

It’s important to find a Christian rehab center that combines spiritual, biblical principles with clinical, evidence-based care. Addiction should not be viewed as an inherent moral sin, but as human suffering with a need for care. A few things to look for in a Christian rehab center include:

  • Evidence-based therapies such as CBT, DBT, and experiential therapies should be provided and integrated with a strong spiritual foundation. These help target the underlying biological, psychological, and emotional patterns that drive addiction.
  • A strong recovery community, access to 12-step, NA, and Alumni networks. Isolation and loneliness are two of the leading characteristics of addiction, and having a supportive network is invaluable. “If either of them falls down, one can help the other. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.” Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
  • Trauma-informed approaches to recovery focus on safety, trust, transparency, collaboration, and empowerment. An effective faith-based addiction treatment program should emphasize compassion, forgiveness, grace, and redemption to help people overcome shame and guilt.
  • Dual diagnosis provides a more comprehensive approach to faith-based addiction treatment by understanding that those who have untreated mental health challenges, such as depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder, have a higher risk of addiction.
  • Qualified, compassionate staff who are certified addiction professionals but integrate faith-based counseling into evidence-based treatment. Your treatment team should be certified to treat co-occurring mental health disorders as well, if relevant.
  • Encourages family involvement. Having loved ones and your spiritual community as part of your recovery journey can significantly improve treatment outcomes.

Prayers for Addiction Recovery and Strength

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”. —Isaiah 41:10

“I can do all things through him who strengthens me”. —Philippians 4:13

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go”. —Joshua 1:9

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” —Proverbs 27:17

Why Choose Christian Addiction Treatment at AnchorPoint

Faith and science have long been viewed as opposing perspectives; however, we aim to end this by connecting science and Christ-centered support through our approach, NeuroFaith™

At AnchorPoint, we encourage you to use faith as a resource. Tapping into your spiritual well-being to foster resilience and address the root of addiction. We are dedicated to providing whole-person care that combines clinical and professional insights with pastoral experience.

Some of the treatment approaches we offer at AnchorPoint to help heal invisible wounds, address mental health challenges, and end the cycle of addiction include:

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a trauma therapy that uses guided eye movements and auditory stimulation to target regions of the brain, making it easier for patients to process traumatic memories and reduce emotional distress.
  • Polyvagal-Informed Therapy at a Christian rehab center combines cutting-edge neuroscience with spiritual care to help men regulate their nervous system and heal from trauma. By understanding how the autonomic nervous system responds to stress and safety, clients learn to move from survival states into a place of inner peace.
  • HeartMath™ is a clinical approach and set of techniques for reducing stress and focusing on the heart-brain connection. For example, in the coherence technique, clients are guided to practice slow, intentional, heart-focused breathing and encouraged to intentionally focus on emotions such as gratitude and appreciation [3].
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) helps patients identify multiple “sub-personalities” or “families” in each person’s mental system that often consist of painful emotions such as anger or shame. IFS focuses on healing these wounded parts and integrating them with the core self.
  • Sociometrics: We integrate social connection and physical activity to support recovery from addiction and trauma. By engaging in group strength training, outdoor recreation, and meaningful brotherhood activities, clients learn to regulate their nervous system and build resilience through community bonds.
