What the Resilience Lab is
The Resilience Lab (RL), part of our adventure therapy for men, is designed to be a place where men can build and grow physical and mental resilience. The goal is simple: provide men in different phases of recovery with practical tools, knowledge and experiences that help them develop healthier habits, recover more effectively, perform at a higher level, and build confidence in their ability to thrive.
- Fitness RoomStrength training, calisthenics, movement and physical development.
- Recovery RoomRed-light therapy, vibration plates, a cold plunge, an infrared sauna and a dry sauna, for heat, cold and other recovery modalities.
The Resilience Lab is located at Holdfast Recovery, our brother program. Men at our residential treatment center for men travel to the Holdfast campus to use it as part of their programming.

What Bobby brings from the military
Bobby Figueroa Director of Resilience
In Special Forces, Bobby saw how to keep highly trained soldiers healthy and performing for as long as possible. Everything he teaches in the Resilience Lab comes from those 20 years.
He trained alongside
- Strength and conditioning coaches
- Physical therapists
- Nutrition professionals
- Human performance and mental resilience experts
Why the NFL and the military invest in these approaches
Their people are their most valuable asset. Keeping them healthy keeps experience and leadership in the field, so Special Forces brought in methods from the NCAA, the NHL and the NFL.
“We should not wait until someone is injured, burned out, or struggling before we begin thinking about health and recovery. We should build resilience before it is needed.”

Strength training for men in Arizona
Strength is more than looking or performing better. It is being capable of protecting, providing for and serving the people around you, and few things build confidence like getting stronger over time.
No complicated programs and no elite-athlete goals: skills you can keep using for the rest of your life.
How Bobby builds a strength-training program
- 01Warm-upAppropriate warm-ups
- 02TechniqueProper lifting technique
- 03Exercise selectionSafe and purposeful
- 04RecoveryBetween workouts
- 05Cool-downCool-down practices
Benefits of strength training
- Muscular strength and bone health
- Better physical function
- Metabolic health
- Mood and overall well-being
Fitness in addiction recovery also supports sleep and helps manage stress and anxiety.
Recovery and wellness
The Recovery Room gives participants access to several modalities designed to complement their physical training and support recovery.
- Sauna and heat exposure
- Cold-water immersion
- Infrared sauna
- Red-light therapy
- Vibration therapy
These tools complement clinical treatment. Heat and cold have been studied for their effects on circulation, recovery, mood and stress; the bigger lesson is that recovery is something a man can pursue on purpose.
Bringing the Resilience Lab to AnchorPoint and Holdfast Recovery
Bobby helped launch the Resilience Lab to give men in recovery the knowledge, tools and confidence to own their physical health, long after they leave the program.
It complements the clinical, counseling and spiritual care, from trauma treatment to depression treatment, because recovery involves the whole man.

Reviews from men at AnchorPoint
- Brett H.May 2026
“Anchor Point Recovery helped me through one of the hardest times in my life. The staff treated me like a real person, not just another client, and that made a huge difference. Everyone was supportive, easy to talk to, and genuinely cared about my progress. The environment felt safe and positive, and I always felt like people wanted to see me do better. I’m really grateful for the experience and would absolutely recommend them to anyone needing help.”

- No. The emphasis is not on complicated programs or trying to become an elite athlete. Men in different phases of recovery participate, and instruction starts with technique and movement rather than load.
- No. Recovery Room modalities are optional, introduced gradually, and cleared with your care team first. Certain medical conditions and medications make heat or cold exposure inappropriate, so participation is reviewed individually.
- No. The Resilience Lab complements the clinical, counseling, spiritual and other services provided by AnchorPoint and Holdfast Recovery; it does not replace them.
- That is the goal. The instruction focuses on teaching men skills they can keep using for the rest of their lives, so the habits carry into a commercial gym, a home setup, or the step-down programs at Holdfast Recovery.
- Yes, and telling us about them matters. Exercise selection is adjusted around injury history, and safe, purposeful exercise selection is part of what is taught.
- No. The Resilience Lab is part of AnchorPoint’s residential programming at no separate charge, so what matters is what your insurance covers for residential treatment.
